PUCP students and alumni participated in Tsinghua University's Global Summer School 2022 on sustainable development

This was my second year participating in the Global Summer School and the experience has been enriching. Not only do you attend master classes and workshops on the topic of your choice, you also connect with students from different countries to put into practice the knowledge you have acquired.

The Global Summer School (GSS), organized by Tsinghua University of China, was an interdisciplinary meeting space for young leaders, which was held virtually from July 4 to 10. In this edition, 5 students and 2 graduates of PUCP obtained scholarships to participate in the program. They were:

• Guillermo Guerrero (Chemistry graduate)
• Eizo Muñoz (Civil Engineering graduate)
• Guillermo Buendia (Electronics Engineering student)
• Kelly Pantoja (Development Communication student)
• Mariel León (Economics student)
• Antonio Ayala (Economics student)
• Brisa Terrazas (Industrial Engineering student)

The theme of this edition was. "A healthy planet for sustainable development".. It explored various ways of resolving conflicts related to public health, society, economy and environment. All with sustainable development as a central theme.

This year 1,160 outstanding students from more than 300 universities, and 71 high schools from 94 different countries and regions around the world participated. The program has a carefully selected curriculum that combines academic, cultural and social engagements, and was conducted entirely in English through online lectures, workshops and an SDG Hackathon.

PUCP-Tsinghua University Relationship

For Dr. Eric Cosio, director of the Institute of Nature, Earth and Energy (INTE-PUCP), the unit in charge of selecting the students and graduates who obtained the scholarships, participating in the Global Summer School 2022 reinforces the strategic relationship with Tsinghua University. "For INTE PUCP, it is a great experience to be able to channel the interests of students from our University, so they can interact with Tsinghua academics and students from all over the world," says Cosio.

Similarly, Lic. Ruben Tang, advisor to the VRI in PUCP-Asia Relations Project and in charge of coordinating with Tsinghua University, highlights the admission of more students from PUCP this year. "Tsinghua University is a world-class academic institution and wishes to develop different activities and joint projects with Latin American universities that enjoy a lot of prestige and show a greater development as is the case of PUCP, so our participation in this kind of programs significantly strengthens our internationalization strategy with the Asian continent," explains Tang.

It should be noted that Tsinghua University is an important educational institution that currently ranks second in China and 14th in the world according to QS 2023 ranking. PUCP has been working with this university on various issues, since the signing of the cooperation agreement between the two institutions in 2018.
