Our University has climbed to its best historical position in the QS World University Ranking: 395th globally, 13th among the Latin American universities listed and 1st in Peru. This achievement, of our entire university community, reaffirms our commitment to international quality education to transform the country.

"The trend that PUCP has been showing is positive, which shows that the efforts we have been making are not only effective, but also sustained," says Juan Carlos Dextre, director of our Academic Directorate of Planning and Evaluation, the unit that coordinates PUCP's participation in international rankings.

In this line, at regional level, we surpassed in the list universities such as the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Colombia, the Federal University of Sao Paulo, the University of Belgrano and the University of Santiago de Chile. On the Peruvian side, 8 universities have been listed, among which we maintain the leadership. UPCH follows in the ranking in the range of 651-700 positions; UNMSM, 801-1000; among others.

13th in Latin America

At the regional level, we outperformed universities such as the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, the Federal University of Sao Paulo, the University of Belgrano and the University of Santiago de Chile.

This year, QS analysed 1,673 higher education institutions, of which 1,300 passed the hurdle to be listed, 8 of them are from Peru.

Having increased the amount of research products we generate, and their visibility to the country and the world, has allowed PUCP to be identified as an important source of academic knowledge.

PUCP Performance

The QS world ranking assesses the conditions necessary for quality education. For this, in addition to analysing standardised data, QS conducts academic reputation and employer surveys. Although the pandemic has unfortunately affected the university community at all levels, it is remarkable to see that PUCP's figures have only been slightly impacted. "These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the University in its process of adapting education to the virtual modality, which has allowed students to feel satisfied with the quality of the training provided and to maintain their confidence," adds Juan Carlos Dextre.

Our best indicator in the ranking is reputation among employers: we are ranked 102nd globally, 15 places better than last year.

The second best and most important indicator (40% of the weighted score) is academic reputation: we reached the 211th position. This evaluates the recognition that our research has among academics in Peru and abroad through a survey that QS conducts every year.

"Having increased the amount of research products we generate and, more importantly, the visibility they have in the country and the world has allowed the PUCP to be identified by a large part of professors, researchers and practitioners as an important source of academic knowledge," says the director of the DAPE.

The expert said that the University's contribution during the pandemic, the MASI ventilators delivered to the Minsa, the oxygen plants installed and the support in the virtualisation of 220 courses in 7 public institutions have also been important.

The study also highlights the third indicator, which is the ratio of professors per students, as we have improved 36 places. With 9.2 professors per 100 students, PUCP is above the world median (8 professors per student).
